Export Power Apps applications, Power Automate flows and Custom Dataverse tables

There are different ways in which you can export your app or flow from your legacy location. The best method depends on how your app or flow is configured.

Choosing your exporting method

• Solution export method: This method is for a set of components (apps, flows, tables, etc.) that work together and have dependencies between components, and involves creating a solution to host these components together as part of the migration.
• Individual export method: This method is used for apps and flows that do not have dependencies on other components and involves exporting each app and/or flow individually. 

Solution export method

The steps below demonstrate how to create a Solution to export a Custom Dataverse table. You can also use these steps to add other components to your Solution if required (repeat part 2 and part 3).

Part 1: Create the Solution and Publisher

• Step 1: Login to https://make.powerapps.com in your current environment using your legacy account.
• Step 2: In the Navigation pane on the left-hand side of the screen, select ‘Solutions’.

• Step 3: Select ‘New solution’ from the top pane and fill in the Solution details. For Publisher, select ‘New publisher’.

• Step 4: Fill in the details for ‘Display name’, ‘Name’ and ‘Prefix’ for the New publisher. The prefix is a unique identifier that will be added to the names of the components that belong to the Solution. The ‘Choice value prefix’ is used to assign this unique identifier to the new components. This keeps the names consistent in the new environment. Click ‘Save’.

• Step 5: Back in the ‘New solution’ menu, select your newly created Publisher from the drop-down and click ‘Create’ to finish creating the Solution.

Part 2: Add components to your Solution

• Step 6: Once the Solution has been created, it will open on the same page.
• Step 7: In the top pane, select ‘Add existing’, and then ‘Table’.

• Step 8: Select the required table and ensure you select ‘Include all objects’. Then click ‘Next’ to complete adding the component to the Solution.

• Optional: Repeat the steps above to add other components to your Solution. If adding an app or flow, once you have selected them, ensure you have clicked on the three dots next to their details and select ‘Add required components’. This will automatically add all the components that your app/flow requires.

Part 3: Export your Solution

• Step 9: Return to the Solutions menu and select your Solution. Then, click ‘Export solution’.

• Step 10: Select ‘Unmanaged’ under Export as to retain editing capabilities.

• Step 11: Click ‘Run solution checker on export’ to validate your solutions against issues and select ‘Export’.

• Step 12: The export file will be prepared. Once the export is ready, a green bar will appear in the top pane. Select ‘Download’ to complete the export and save your solution as a .zip file.

• Optional: You can also use Power Automate create and edit Solutions. Your Solutions are also be visible on https://make.powerautomate.com.

Individual export method

The steps below demonstrate how to export apps and flows individually.

Power Apps – Canvas apps

• Step 1: Login to https://make.powerapps.com in your current environment using your legacy account.
• Step 2: In the Navigation pane on the left-hand side of the screen, select ‘Apps’.

• Step 3: For each app you would like to migrate, select the three dots next to the app and select ‘Export package’.

• Step 4: The ‘Export package’ menu will open. Fill in the package details and click ‘Update’ within the Review Package Content section.

• Step 5: Change the default ‘Import setup’ to ‘Create as new’, then select ‘Save’.

• Step 6: Once you have filled in all package details, select ‘Export’ to complete the export and save your solution as a .zip file.

Power Apps – Model-driven apps

• Step 1: Create a Solution and Publisher as outlined in the section above for Solution export method. Once the Solution has been created, it will open on the same page. Then, follow the steps below once your solution has been created.
• Step 2: In the top pane, select ‘Add existing’, then ‘App’, then ‘Model-driven app’.

• Step 3: The available model-driven apps will be displayed in a list. Select your chosen model-driven app, then click ‘Add’.

• Step 4: For the model-drive app (or apps) added to your Solution, ensure you have clicked on the three dots next to their details and select ‘Add required object’. This will automatically add all the components that your app/flow requires.

• Step 5: Export your solution as outlined in the section above for Solution export method.

Power Automate – Cloud flows

• Step 1: Login to https://make.powerautomate.com in your current environment using your legacy account.
• Step 2: In the Navigation pane on the left-hand side of the screen, select ‘My flows’.

• Step 3: Your Cloud flows will be displayed in a list. These are flows you are the only owner. Select ‘Shared with me’ to see other flows you own. 

• Step 4: For each flow you would like to export, select the flow then click on the three dots to select ‘Export’, then ‘Package (.zip)’.

• Step 5: The ‘Export package’ menu will open. Fill in the package details and click ‘Update’ within the Review Package Content section.

• Step 6: Change the default ‘Import setup’ to ‘Create as new’, then select ‘Save’.

• Step 7: Once you have filled in all package details, select ‘Export’ to complete the export and save your solution as a .zip file.
